Pokémon GCN link with SRAM flashcarts

I know that the link management programs the GCN Pokémon games send to their GBA counterparts always look for flash memory and that's why it doesn't work and stuff.

But I seem to remember there being patches out in the wild that actually fixed this issue and allowed the games to link.

Buy try as I might, I can't find them. Am I wrong and they don't exist, or is my Google-fu just weak?
